The article presents the results of a comprehensive analysis of the regulatory legal, instructional and methodological framework in force in the Russian Federation in the field of land protection, and situational information on the quality of soil and land resources that are in demand for the organization of logistical support for the penal system. Using the example of one of the typical subsidiary farms of institutions in the Ryazan region, the need for strict compliance with the requirements of environmental legislation to ensure soil-protective agriculture and reproduction of the fertility of cultivated land is substantiated. The emphasis is placed on comparing the main directions of the development of the penal system of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030 with the types of permitted activities during the labor adaptation of convicts. Based on the results of the study, a number of proposals have been formulated in order to minimize the costs of running a subsidiary farm in institutions of the penal system.
