The article is devoted to the definition of the concepts of crime prevention as the purpose of punishment and correction of a convicted person. The purpose of the article is to systematize scientific and legislative approaches to the definition of "crime prevention" based on the analysis of terminology problems, as well as to provide a scientific overview of existing positions on this issue. For decades, there has been a debate in criminology about the content of this concept and related ones, one of which is the term "convict correction." The results of these debates do not remain in the field of theory alone. In the early 2000s, an attempt was made to give the concept in question legislative force. Noting such a movement as a positive phenomenon that has practical significance in terms of the unification of this concept and related ones, problems requiring further research are identified. Based on the analysis, proposals were made to improve the legislative interpretation of the terms "crime prevention", "crime prevention", "correction of convicts", etc.
