The article presents a retrospective (legal regulation and practice of execution) of the punishmen in the form of imprisonmen of the persons suffering alcoholism, in interrelation with a condition of law order and determinants of crime, discusses the development of forced treatment institute of convicts, suffering alcoholism. The analysis of the history of the medical measures to convicts, suffering alcoholism, has allowed to offer to revive the institute of forced treat-ment. It must be concludedthat accounting of the accumulated work experience is the key to optimization of execution ofpunishments concerning the convicts, suffering with alcoholism, as well as enhancing their preventive component.
