In article problems of forming of professional identity and need of study of a number of development mechanisms of professionalism in relation to the sphere of professional activity of employees of a penal system are considered. The formulation of the question about need of forming of professional identity of employees of a penal system is a key stage in creation of the necessary base of the identity of the officer, finding of a reliable support in the form of own high level of skill and professionalism.Forming of professional identity is especially urgent in connection with the changed nature of relations between professional educational institutions and practical bodies, with growth of mobility of a manpower, and also a capability of people to bystry change of professional activity. It should be noted that forming of professional identity will be successful if to perform it in the context of understanding of its place in general structure of the personality and also as a general task of preserving domestic traditions in line with various psychological directions.
