The article presents the results of studying the personal characteristics of convicts serving sentences in a correctional colony of general regime. The empirical study was conducted on the basis of the FKU IK-6 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Ryazan region. 100 male convicts took part in it. The purpose of the study - the study of criminal law, socio-demographic and individual psychological characteristics of convicts. Research methods: analysis of personal files, observation, survey, conversation, testing. The results of the study are of practical importance for the psychological services of correctional institutions and can be applied in order to improve the effectiveness of psychological support for convicts serving sentences in places of deprivation of liberty.
