The article deals with the problem of assessing the safety of land resources of production units of the penal system in the context of general economic security. The analysis of existing approaches is carried out and a system of indicators is proposed, which allows taking into account the complexity and scale of the factors influencing it. A conceptual framework covering the key substantive aspects of the economic security of land resources is proposed. It takes into account the orientation towards economic sustainable development, includes not only basic maintenance of the uninterrupted functioning of the production units of the penal system, but also rational use, which affects the stability of the price of land.
