The article examines the history of forced treatment of drug addicts who have committed administrative offenses or crimes. The necessity of restoring compulsory treatment of persons with drug addiction is substantiated. The authors investigate the main changes in the grounds and forms of compulsory treatment of this category of persons that occurred in Russia. Based on the conducted research, analysis of scientific literature, a conclusion is formulated confirming that compulsory treatment of persons with drug addiction is a prerequisite for the prevention of their crimes.
