Abstract (English):
The work shows that the acquisition of professional skills by convicts in a penitentiary institution is one of the means of their correction and an important factor in reducing the number of repeat crimes. It has been established that the main problem for the administration of the penitentiary institution is the lack of an integrated system of higher education for convicts. A mechanism has been developed and tested for organizing the training of convicts according to higher education programs in a penitentiary institution, including the following stages: a study of the needs of convicts to receive professional education; the choice of educational training programs taking into account the requirements of federal state educational standards and the Penal Code of the Russian Federation; organizing the preparation of convicts for entrance exams to an educational institution of higher professional education, the educational process in a penitentiary institution.
